Beautiful Vellum – New background technique!

Two of my favourite things to use when making cards is embossing powder and vellum. Seriously, embossing powder still gets me every time I use it. It was the first thing that got me hooked into cardmaking. I had never seen anything like that before. Don’t you just love to see that powder change colour as it melts and brings your cards to life? I recently saw a card that was inspired by a lady who I have watched for many years. Her name is Chrissie Stokes the creator of Simply One of a Kind designs and she shared this amazing technique using both of my favourites. Here is the link to her video

I love how this card turned out and its amazing all the colour combinations that you can try with this technique. Adding the colour to the background just makes the embossing “pop” so much more.

To make my card I stamped the fern from the Nature’s Prints stamp set in versamark ink and randomly stamped it on the vellum. Then sprinkled the entire piece of vellum in white embossing power and heated it gently with the heat tool on the back and then the front. It doesn’t take long for the powder to melt and reveal its magic.

Once the vellum was cool I turned it over and stamped the same fern using Evening Evergreen ink. I glued the vellum down with liquid glue making sure to place tiny droplets of glue on the white embossed areas so it couldn’t be seen through the vellum. I adhered a small strip of cardstock also in Evening Evergreen to the side of the card.

To make the sentiment, die cut the small “thanks” from the Amazing Thanks dies a total of 5 times and glue together.

Now cover the die cut in versamark and cover with gold embossing powder and heat. After first heating, dip again in the gold embossing powder and reheat a further two times. This leaves you with a shiny thick layer of gold.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and will try this technique for yourself as it really is a lovely way to enhance vellum on your cards. I would love to hear your comments or see a card you have made using this technique.
